Arabic New Baby Wishes and Birth Announcement Cards

A new baby is news the family shares and friends celebrate. Here are the Arabic phrases people use to congratulate parents on a boy or a girl, how to reply, what goes on a birth announcement, and templates ready for the baby's name and birth date.

Wishes for a new baby boy

Short phrases for a WhatsApp message or a card with a gift, written as they are said:

بارك الله لك في الموهوب لك، وشكرت الواهب، وبلغ أشدّه، ورُزقت برّهMay God bless you in the one given to you; may you thank the Giver, may he reach maturity, and may you enjoy his devotion
Congratulations on your new arrival; may God make him the joy of your eyes
Thank God the mother is well, and congratulations on the baby
May God raise him well and make him a treasure for his parents
He has lit up your home; may God protect him and bring you joy through him

The first phrase is the traditional congratulation on a newborn, recorded by al-Nawawi in his book al-Adhkar, and it says the most in the fewest words.

Wishes for a new baby girl

For a baby girl, the same phrases are said in the feminine, among them:

بارك الله لك في الموهوبة لك، وشكرت الواهب، وبلغت أشدّها، ورُزقت برّهاMay God bless you in the one given to you; may you thank the Giver, may she reach maturity, and may you enjoy her devotion
Congratulations on your new arrival; may God make her the joy of her parents' eyes
May God raise her well and make her among the righteous
Thank God all is well; may God make her a blessing to her family

Replying to congratulations

The parents reply with a prayer for the well-wisher; al-Adhkar gives this reply:

بارك الله لك، وبارك عليك، وجزاك الله خيراً، ورزقك الله مثلهMay God bless you and shower His blessings upon you, reward you with good, and grant you the same
God bless you, and may it be your turn next (everyday reply)

Announcement wording from the family

An announcement is not a congratulation: the baby's family sends it to share the news. It often opens with praise to God or a verse, or is written in the baby's own voice:

بفضل الله ومنّته رُزقنا بمولودناBy God's grace and favor, we have been blessed with our baby
We are delighted to announce the arrival of our baby
Thank God I arrived safely; my name is … (in the baby's voice)
My Lord, grant me from Yourself good offspring; You hear every prayer (Quran 3:38)
Wealth and children are the adornment of the worldly life (Quran 18:46)

The first verse is from Surat Al Imran (3:38), the second from Surat al-Kahf (18:46). Copy a verse with its diacritics from a trusted source rather than typing it from memory.

What goes on a birth announcement card?

  • An opening line: «بشارة مولود» (a birth announcement), a welcome line or a verse.
  • The baby's name, the largest text on the card.
  • The parents' names or the family name.
  • The birth date in Hijri, Gregorian, or both, the day, and if you like the time, weight, and length.
  • A short prayer or a thank-you line for well-wishers.
  • A photo of the baby if you wish, cut out from its background.

Many people look for a blank announcement so they can add the name themselves, and every Tiraz template works that way: all the text is editable, so you can write the name or remove it and keep the design.

Wishes for a brother, sister, or friend

When the baby is born to someone close, the wishes are warmer and more personal:

مبارك يا أخي، صرتَ أباً، جعله الله قرّة عينك وسندكCongratulations, brother, you are a father now; may God make him your joy and your support
Congratulations, sister; thank God you are well, and may God make him devoted to you
Thank God you are well, dear friend, and congratulations on your baby
May she be the joy of your eyes, and may God make her among the righteous

An announcement from the big brother or sister

A sweet idea is to write the announcement in the voice of the older brother or sister, with a photo of them holding the baby:

الحمد لله، صار عندي أخ اسمه …Thank God, I have a little brother named …
My little sister … has arrived; welcome to our home
I grew up today; I'm a big brother now

Remove the photo's background in Tiraz, place the children over a calm backdrop, and set the line in a playful rounded font with the name in a clearer one.

The aqiqah and baby favors

It is a Sunnah to offer the aqiqah on the baby's seventh day; the hadith says:

كُلُّ غُلَامٍ رَهِينَةٌ بِعَقِيقَتِهِ، تُذْبَحُ عَنْهُ يَوْمَ سَابِعِهِ، وَيُحْلَقُ، وَيُسَمَّىEvery child is in pledge for his aqiqah, which is slaughtered for him on his seventh day; his head is shaved and he is named (Abu Dawud)

If you invite family to the aqiqah meal, the invitation names the host, the occasion, the time, and the place, for example:

يسرّ فلان بن فلان دعوتكم لتناول طعام الغداء بمناسبة عقيقة ابنه …[Name] is pleased to invite you to lunch for the aqiqah of his son …

In the Gulf, visitors receive small gifts known as «توزيعات» (favors), each with a tag bearing the baby's name and a thank-you line, such as:

شكراً لزيارتكم، أنا … وصلت حديثاًThank you for visiting; I am …, and I just arrived
Your visit made us happy

Design the tag at a small custom size and print as many as you need on one sheet.

New baby wishes in English

If the parents read English, or you want an English line beside the Arabic:

  • Congratulations on your new arrival
  • Welcome to the world, little one
  • Wishing your family endless joy with your baby

Tips for an elegant baby card

  • Make the baby's name the largest element, and everything else clearly smaller.
  • Stick to two fonts: a soft one for the name and a clear one for the date and details.
  • Blue for a boy and pink for a girl is a habit, not a rule; calm shades such as beige and pale green suit both.
  • Check the Hijri date against the Gregorian date and the weekday before you share it.

Fonts that suit a baby card

A baby card calls for soft, rounded type rather than sharp angles: a delicate Diwani for the name, Nastaliq for the phrase, and a rounded modern font for the details.

Design the announcement in Tiraz

  1. Open the template in the editor

The birth announcement template opens in the editor at full size; its fonts and pictures download once and stay on your device. Everything you see is its own layer: texts, photos, and ornaments. Don't start with colors before the text is in, since the length of a name can change the design's balance.

The template open in the editor, with its tools along the bottom.
  2. Type the names and details

Double-tap the text you want to change to open the text editor, replace the sample name («نورة») with yours and tap ✓. Change each text separately and keep its line breaks, so the template keeps its layout. The usual mistake is pasting a whole paragraph into one text, which shrinks the type and breaks the design.

The Tiraz text editor open on the baby's name
The text editor: type your name over the sample name, then tap ✓.
  3. Write the date in Hijri and Gregorian

Select the date text and open Date (or add a new date from the toolbar), pick the day and choose Hijri, Gregorian, or both, adding the weekday and time if you like. Tiraz calculates Hijri with the Umm al-Qura calendar, so there's nothing to convert yourself. Double-check the day you picked; date mistakes are the most common error on cards.

The Tiraz date panel: March 5, 2027 (Ramadan 26, 1448 AH) with Hijri, Gregorian, weekday, and time options
The date panel: Hijri, Gregorian, weekday, and time.
  4. Decorate with lettering and elements

Tap graphics in the toolbar to open Elements, then the Elements tab, and pick an item from Newborn, such as baby shoes. The element lands on the design, where you can scale, move, and recolor it to match; elements with a crown are part of Gold. One or two are enough, since too much decoration buries the names.

  5. Export or share the design

Tap the gold share button at the top of the editor to open Export: a full-size PNG for free, and a print PDF, 4K, and transparent backgrounds with Gold. Tap Share to send it straight to WhatsApp, or Save to keep it in Photos. For a print shop always choose PDF; a phone image prints soft.

The Tiraz export sheet: free PNG and Gold PDF, quality and background, the invitation link, and Share and Save
The export sheet: format, quality, and background, then share or save.

Common Questions

What do you say to congratulate new parents?
The traditional phrase is «بارك الله لك في الموهوب لك، وشكرت الواهب، وبلغ أشدّه، ورُزقت برّه», or a short one such as «مبارك ما جاءكم، جعله الله قرّة عين لكم».
How do I reply to congratulations on a new baby?
You say «بارك الله لك، وبارك عليك، وجزاك الله خيراً، ورزقك الله مثله», or simply «الله يبارك فيك» (God bless you).
What is the difference between an announcement and a congratulation?
The family sends the announcement to share the news; relatives and friends send congratulations to the parents.
When is a birth announcement sent?
Usually in the first days after the birth, once the family is reassured about mother and baby; some wait until the seventh day, when the name is announced with the aqiqah.
Can I add the baby's name in English too?
Yes. Add a line in a Latin Script or Serif font under the Arabic name, and the two names sit together on the card.
Which colors suit a baby card?
Calm, light colors: sky blue, pale pink, beige, and soft green, with one darker color for the name so it reads clearly. Avoid loud backgrounds that overpower the name.
